Marske and Blyth AFC crowned champions - 05/05/2018
Marske United and Blyth AFC have been crowned champions of the Ebac Northern League Divisions One and Two respectively. Marske clinched the First Division after a 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle Benfield, while Blyth won 4-0 at Tow Law. Marske manager Carl Jarrett said: “I’m just very proud of all the lads, considering all of the games we have had to play. “We’ve played 16 games since the Vase semi-final and only lost one. That’s a credit to them, they’ve all worked hard and done a great job. “It feels a lot better than a couple of years ago when Shildon lost it. This time we’ve won it in our own way in front of our home crowd. We’re the best team in the league and we proved that today. “Since the Vase defeat we’ve stuck together. I was more worried about running out of players through injury than running out of gas. They worked hard every single game and done a fantastic job.” Blyth AFC manager Jon McDonald said: “The lads were magnificent today and have been all season. “It’s a really tough division, so to be champions is a great feeling. “Credit should go to all the lads, they’ve been a credit to the club this season.” League chairman Glenn Youngman said: “It’s a great achievement for Marske and Blyth AFC. On behalf of the league I’d like to congratulate everyone at both clubs on their success after a long, hard season.” Blyth will be presented with the Second Division trophy after their game at Bedlington Terriers on Monday and Marske will be presented with the First Division trophy after their game against Stockton on Wednesday.
